Volunteer Positions Open

Cave Spring Historic Site and Nature Center is in need of your help!

We are looking for individuals that are willing to donate time and energy to keep this wonderful facility alive and growing. The following positions are available to those interested in being a part of our family.

Receptionist: This position is responsible for answering the phone, greeting visitors and monitoring the gift shop. Days are Tuesday through Saturday. The hours for this position are 10:00 to 1:00 and 1:00 to 5:00. Schedule is flexible and interested individuals may work one shift a week (or more.)

Typist/Data entry: Responsibilities of this position include typing, updating mailing lists, sorting files, etc. Hours are flexible between 10:00 and 5:00. Days are flexible Tuesday through Saturday.

Trail maintenance/Monitoring: This position can be for individuals or groups. Responsibilities include checking trails for obstructions and other problems, spreading chips, cleaning excess brush along trails and trash pick-up. Hours are flexible and open (dawn to dusk.) This work can be done Sunday through Saturday at the convenience of the volunteers.

Interpreters: These individuals would present and/or assist with programs. Cave Spring offers a large number of programs to school, scout and other groups. Programs include subjects on cultural And natural history. Scout programs would include those needed for merit badge requirements. Days needed are Tuesday through Sunday. Hours are determined by scheduling. Most programs require at least two hours. Detailed training for these positions will be furnished.

Research assistant: Responsibilities include trips to library and archive facilities. Making copies of documents, transcriptions, collation of materials, correspondence/phone contacts with other historic sites and preparation of materials. Hours are flexible and work can be done at home. Work done at the Nature Center would be Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 to 5:00.

Animal care specialist: This position requires training which will be furnished. Responsibilities include cleaning cages and monitoring the exhibit animals. (Currently these include a Black Rat snake, a Red Milk snake and a Black-tailed Prairie Dog. This position requires a commitment of one day per week.

There are additional special projects that are available to volunteers and scout groups. The site also maintains a list of Eagle projects. These projects vary from building and installing shelves to painting and other building maintenance items.
